Product Engineer I

Position Summary:

The Product Engineer is responsible for new product development and related engineering requirements including design verification for Engineering Changes to current legacy products. The incumbent also acts as a Project Manager and the company’s Engineering representative to the customer when required.

The Product Engineer will participate in planning and reviewing activities and help to make adjustments to product, etc. in order to make project teams more effective and capable of producing higher quality deliverables tightly aligned with business needs.

The team member must demonstrate creativity, versatility, personal accountability, contributor aptitude and drive to foster continuous improvement. The team member will play a key role in allowing the company to meet stated product development objectives while continuously learning how to be more responsive to rapidly changing business conditions through the ongoing application of principles and practices of multiple agile frameworks.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related Engineering field
  • Previous product design experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Exposure and experience with agile product management (Scrum)

Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and maintaining applicable Engineering documents (DFMEA, EC’s, test documents, product development documents, etc.) specific to assigned projects
  • Facilitate customer and internal design reviews
  • Identify and develop/document testing procedures for design validation and product prove out
  • Customer and internal Engineering sign-off of design and performance documentation
  • On-site and customer/supplier support for PPAP, prototype and production launches
  • Support Engineering Change requests on assigned projects
  • Oversee procurement of parts, cost and funding of prototypes, etc. to support design development
  • Establish datum’s, critical characteristics and the development of SPC data points
  • Utilize DFA/DFM initiatives during product development
  • Oversee and assist component and process suppliers as required
  • Material and process selection during product design

  • Able to interpret customer performance and design specification and incorporate them into assigned projects
  • Apply knowledge of various manufacturing process and costs into designs to ensure cost-effective, high-performance product solutions
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervision
  • Work with cross-functional team to assist with product development and speed to market initiatives

 

Additional Information: 

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience is a plus
  • Formal Project Management training is a plus
  • CPM certification is a plus
