LightCorp Marks Milestone with Amble Task Light – Mlive

CHICAGO — LightCorp is hitting a major milestone by taking stock and making changes to strengthen its position in the commercial lighting industry.

The 30-year-old Grand Haven company exited the industrial lighting business in January to concentrate solely on task lighting. With the shift, LightCorp is unveiling a new corporate redesign that includes a fresh logo and website that provides a virtual showroom experience.

“We are kind of reintroducing ourselves to a lot of the marketplace,” said LightCorp General Manager Kyle Verplank, while at the company’s 7th floor booth at Merchandise Mart during the NeoCon. The company is showcasing its latest products at its 7th floor booth at Merchandise Mart during the NeoCon. The three-day trade fair runs through Wednesday, June 15.

“Our new identity and our new products represent an intentional move toward being a more design-centric organization where innovation, form and function come together as one.” We are kind of reintroducing ourselves to a lot of the marketplace. — Kyle Verplank.

As part of this re-tooling, LightCorp is launching designs for several new task lights this year. One is the Amble Task Light by Stephan Copeland, who has designed products for other furniture-makers such as Knoll and Herman Miller. The battery-powered light is recharged with the USB cord used for smart phones. The flexible, curve light is designed to hide glare in every position.

There is a need for innovation in the commercial lighting industry to keep up with the rapidly changing technology in other commercial products, says Rick Smith, the company’s vice president of business. Verplank thinks the company’s new products are shifting the conversation of lighting from “accessory” to “essential.”

“Lighting is the subtle, yet essential feature of the workplace,” he said. “For 30 years, we’ve put all of our energy into understanding how it empowers a person’s work, influences their mood and helps them focus.”
