Product Development Engineer

Position Summary:

The Product Engineer II is responsible for new product development and related engineering requirements including design verification for Engineering Changes to current legacy products. This position provides mentoring and development for entry-level positions as well as multi-discipline support for Operations Engineering. The incumbent also acts as a Project Manager and the company’s Engineering representative to the customer when required.

The team member must demonstrate creativity, versatility, personal accountability, contributor aptitude, and drive to foster continuous improvement. The team member will play a key role in allowing the company to meet stated product development objectives while continuously learning how to be more responsive to rapidly changing business conditions through the ongoing application of principles and practices of multiple agile frameworks.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with minimum 3 to 5 years related experience
  • Previous Project Management experience
  • Product development/launch experience (e.g. DFA/DFM, PFMEA)
  • Experience with tooling, fixture, and equipment design for assembly
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software and Creo/Solidworks
  • Exposure to and experience with agile product management

 

Deliverables:

Development

  • Drafting and maintaining applicable Engineering documents (DFMEA, EC’s, test documents, product development documents, etc.) specific to assigned projects
  • Facilitate customer and internal design reviews
  • Identify and develop/document testing procedures for design validation and product prove out
  • Customer and internal Engineering sign-off of design and performance documentation
  • On-site and customer/supplier support for PPAP, prototype, and production launches
  • Support Engineering Change requests on assigned projects
  • Oversee procurement of parts, cost, and funding of prototypes, etc., to support design development
  • Establish datum’s, critical characteristics, and the development of SPC data points
  • Utilize DFA/DFM initiatives during product development
  • Oversee and assist component and process suppliers as required
  • Material and process selection during product design taking into consideration environmental aspects to ensure hazardous chemicals/components are not used
  • Tooling, fixture, and process design for production
  • Communicate project timelines to internal and external stakeholders (Product Manager, supply chain, quality, customers as needed)
  • Update Project KPI’s and Project control documents

 

Manufacturing Engineering

Provide manufacturing engineering direction for new product launches and existing product changes using established design tools (PFMEA, DFA/DFM, Business Plan, Capacity Plan, and Ergonomic Assessment). This includes:

  • Labor requirements
  • Tooling, fixture, and equipment specification
  • Process routing creation
  • Safety and ergonomic injury mitigation
  • Process validation
  • Manufacturing readiness runs

  • Able to interpret customer performance and design specification and incorporate them into assigned projects
  • Apply knowledge of various manufacturing processes and costs into designs to ensure cost-effective, high-performance product solutions
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervision
  • Work with cross-functional team to assist with product development and speed to market initiatives
